Koncor Steel, makers of 36" high carbon & 24" low carbon flat ground steel products, tool bits and heat treating has been bought out and the jobs will be moving. It used to be a in the top ten places to work in the county, maybe still is but I rarely talk to anyone there in the last ten years.
Koncor's precision steel operation is located closest to St. Rt. 108, and was the more labor intensive side of the operation. The remaining operations in the second large building on the property will apparently remain. The remaining operation basicly consists of cold drawing Latrobe steel coil to size (diameter), annealing, bar straightening, grinding bars and shipping to (mainly) drill bit manufacturers.
Pennsylvania firm buys Wauseon plant assets
WAUSEON — A Washington, Pa., steel firm has purchased half of the assets of a Wauseon steel plant and plans to move some equipment from Fulton County to facilities in Pennsylvania and Illinois.
Precision Marshall Steel acquired assets of Koncor Industries, a division of Latrobe Specialty Steel, last week. Koncor made precision ground products from tool, die, and high-speed steels, and its work will be consolidated into Precision’s plants.
Reached yesterday, a plant spokesman could not say how many jobs would be lost, but said Latrobe’s other local operations would remain.
