| | Three injured in Wauseon fire (NBC 24 Toledo) | |
WAUSEON — A Wauseon woman was seriously hurt Tuesday night when she jumped to the ground from a second-floor window of a burning house in the north-central part of this Fulton County community.
Several other people, including the woman’s children, were also hurt in the fire, authorities said.
Melissa Molina, whose age was not released, was listed in serious condition Wednesday morning at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, a hospital spokesman said.
Ms. Molina’s son, who is about seven, was also hurt in the fire and taken to St. Vincent, where his condition was unavailable. Five other family members, mostly children, were treated at Fulton County Health Center, according to the Wauseon Fire Department.
Fire crews arrived about 10:50 p.m. and found Ms. Molina on the ground by a two-story wood frame house at 611 Ottokee St., with fire at the back of the building. A neighbor, who was attempting to help her family members to get out of the house, told firefighters that she had jumped out of a second-floor window, Wauseon Fire Chief Marv Wheeler said.
Firefighters took Ms. Molina to safety and rescued her family members from the fire. Some were taken from inside the house and some from the porch roof, Chief Wheeler said.
Firefighters had the blaze under control by about 2:40 a.m. Wednesday, by which time the back half of the house was a total loss, the fire chief said.

The Toledo Blade added to the story: Quote:
WAUSEON - From his second-floor room, Jose Molina, Jr., smelled smoke in his family's Wauseon home.
Thinking something was burning on the kitchen stove, he went downstairs to investigate.
He spotted smoke in the kitchen, opened the front door, and yelled to his parents to get out of the house at 611 Ottokee St.
"Then I ran upstairs to get everybody else out," Mr. Molina said. "But the smoke turned black upstairs and we couldn't see. [So] my sister broke the window [in her bedroom] to get herself and her son out."
Mr. Molina, 25, and six family members, including his sister who he said is six months pregnant, were hurt in the fire Tuesday night.
Melissa Molina, 28, who dropped to the ground from the second-floor window, was in serious condition last night in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center.
Also hurt were Ms. Molina's son, Isayah Molina, 4; her brothers, Junior Molina, 11, and Austin Molina, 8, and her parents, Jose Molina, 50, and Julia Molina, who is in her mid 40s. All suffered smoke inhalation.
"When [the firefighters] started to move her on her side, she had trouble sitting up so they took her to the hospital," Junior said. "I am also worried about my brother [Austin]." http://www.toledoblade.com/apps/pbcs...WS07/803270358 | It could have been a lot worse I guess.
