Default Lawmakers to abolish Ohio Tobacco Prevention Foundation

Lawmakers are expected to deliver a fatal blow to the Ohio Tobacco Prevention Foundation, which is fighting state leaders over plans to take $230 million in anti-smoking money for a new jobs program.
Rep. Jay Hottinger, a Newark Republican, introduced legislation Tuesday to abolish the foundation and give its remaining money to the Ohio Health Department. Hottinger said he expected the measure to be signed by Democrat Gov. Ted Strickland today.
"It's unfortunate we feel we need to go this way, but it's important to bring closure to the issue," he said. "It will allow us to take the next necessary step, which is implementation of the jobs bill."
